Michelle Shaw, RYT


   When Michelle was a kid and people asked, “What do you want to be when you grow
up?,” she had no trouble answering: “A first grade teacher and a gymnastics coach.” As life would have it, Michelle became a high school English teacher and a diving coach for more than 25 years.

   In 2004 Michelle took her first yoga class at a local art gallery. Despite feeling somewhat hesitant, her neighbor insisted on picking her up for “just one class.” However, after that initial experience, Michelle’s mind, body, and spirit were asking for more.

   Since then, Michelle has been enthusiastically practicing a wide variety styles from a multitude of amazing teachers. Even though she enjoyed quietly soaking up her own yoga experience in a back-row spot for many years, something shifted in 2014. Not only did Michelle desire to dig deeper into her own practice, but she also felt inspired to share the amazing gift of yoga with others.

   In Spring of 2016, Michelle completed her 200-hour teacher training with Kia Miller, founder of Radiant Body Yoga, at the Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. Kia’s approach combines the technical precision of Ashtanga and Iyengar Yoga with the meditative and mantra-based practices of Kundalini Yoga. Her style facilitates a holistic experience that allows students to enhance their awareness of prana and the subtle body.

   For Michelle, teaching yoga feels like coming home . . . coming home to her best self while
sharing all that’s possible with others.

   Michelle lives along the Kalamazoo River with husband, Mike, and their golden retriever, Grover. When off the mat, Michelle may be found reading, sailing, writing, baking, knitting, hiking, and loving life with family and friends.
